Poets Anonymous

“I used to be a poet”

My daily quote to those who ask

“I used to write”

My mantra to myself for a decade

Alcoholics are always alcoholics.

Never will they touch a drink

without succumbing to it’s sweet

addictive nectar.

Writers are forever writers.

We see a scrap of paper, begging

for our musings.

A pen lies on the ground – we must

pick it up.

We must.

We see a blank page and a keyboard;

we itch to make music with our thoughts.

A decade of denial,

of kicking the pen away,

of turning the computer off.

But now i confess,

I stand before you all,

and swear that i am a poet.
